this is my 3rd waterproof mp3 player. the 1st was a cheap and bulky one that eventually didn't work anymore, the 2nd was the waterproof case for the ipod. the case was bulky on my arm and would get in the way when i did freestyle. the waterproof earplugs that came w/ it where awful and they never stayed in my ears. maybe if i was a guy they would, but not little woman ears like mine! i did like it because i could look at the menu and pick out the song i wanted.. can't do that with this one. anyways, i finally broke down and bought this one not expecting much. i'm pretty happy with it and yes, it actually works. i gave it 4 stars since it's not perfect. here are my only complaints: 1)the buttons take some time to remember which one is which other wise you have to take off your goggles to look if you want to fast forward to a different song. they all feel the same except the on/off one sticks up higher. 2) you really do have to wear earplugs to hear the best.. still trying to find comfortable ear plugs. 3)the software isn't as user friendly as itunes, but it's do-able. 4) wish they came with more memory!

I am a swimmer and I can say of the many waterproof mp3 players I've tried, this is the first that actually stays put after flip turns, hard wall pushoffs, and butterfly stroke. I also love the fact that I can break the monotony of lap swimming with some tunes and use the beat to sync my pace.
The one down side is the sound quality is very poor. I've tried it in many positions with and without earplugs to no avail. Some sounds within a song are inaudible and others are ear piercing.
Again, overall I am happy that I at least have something that works for a hard swim workout routine, but the sound quality is pretty disappointing.

OK, I love to swim. I am trying to lose weight and I hate to sweat, so swimming is a great cardio choice for me. But, then, there was the boredom. When you do anything else cardio you can listen to your mp3 player, right? Not so much with swimming. Counting laps, making up blog posts, shopping lists, design ideas for my store...just, your mind goes wild with things that frankly, are frustrating, cuz you cannot do a thing about ANY of them while you're doing laps. I always thought, "If I just had some music...", but when I looked for it in the past the technology was for only the very elite. Several hundred dollars that I was unwilling to spend. I recently found a cheap [forty bucks] mp3 player at my local Fry's. It was not a case, but a waterproof mp3 player, with a pair of earplugs that looked like clear, soft rubber Christmas trees. I used it about 4 times...and honestly, even though the sound was just so-so, and if water got past the Christmas trees it was pretty much gone...it was still very cool. I could hear the music for most of my workout [an hour of laps] and I would have been tickled. As it happens...I have sissy ear canals. I can't wear any kind of ear plugs, not even the foam ones, for any length of time...and I am talking minutes...without breaking down the skin inside my ears. Then I have days of crusting and healing before I can wear them again. I thought if I just kept redoing the process it would toughen up in there. But at one point my left ear was nearly crusted shut. So sad.

Back to the drawing board. I researched some more and found something called "bone conduction technology" in reference to underwater music players. Used to be very expensive. VERY. Now? It's not so pricey!! This player did drop fifteen dollars from the time I ordered it to the time I received it...one day. Meh.

Anyhow, I got my SwiMP3 v2 on Saturday and I put almost 3 hours of my favorite workout music on it over the weekend. It was very easy using Windows Media Player 11. Totally drag and drop. It is small as far as storage, but it is plenty long for my 1-2 hour swim workout.

I used it for the first time Monday. And...O.M.G. Awesome is not even close to how cool this is. First, it doesn't go IN your ear. I repeat - NOT IN YOUR EAR! It clips to the strap on your goggles and the speaker part [the large end in the picture] sits below on the skin in front of your ear, near your cheekbone. This conducts the sound through the bone directly to the inner ear. It was loud and crisp and wonderful...then I put my head under water. My ears filled with water and...LOUDER, CRISPER, even MORE wonderful! I stopped and asked my lane mate if he could hear it. He said, "Hear what?" I lifted the speaker from my cheek and he leaned in and said, "OH! I can now..." It sounded for all the world like the whole Natatorium could hear it! I swam for an hour and the only thing that changes the sound is when your head comes out of the water. I usually swim with a snorkel, but did a few laps without to test this. Seems to be a bit more noise in my ears from turning and lifting my head to breathe...so it interferes slightly in hearing the music. But really, not very much. I have no idea how this thing is waterproof, but it seems to be, and is just completely amazing.

I can't find anything wrong with this device. Adjusting the volume is easy, just push and hold the up or down arrow buttons. Changing songs, one touch to the up or down arrow buttons moves you one song back or forward in your list. I can only see one issue with it. I am certain to want to swim MORE [today I did over an hour, 1.5 miles - 54 laps] and might very well hurt myself with this...heh.

I picked up the Finis after a friend of mine told me it was better than anything out there. The proprietary technology is really cool as the music transmit through your jawbone. That means no more ear plugs and no more wasting time trying to get them to fit. While I love the concept of the H20 Audio waterproof cases, I spent way too much time trying to get the earphones to fit just right. The Finis is lightweight, simple to use, and really stays in place. I find it totally unobtrusive and the sound is much much better underwater. It's quite full of treble above water, but for it's true intended use, under water is where it's at. It is not a sophisticated sound system that will play high def quality music like Bose output. It's just not like that. But it is good enough to enhance your overall experience. Training for my 30th Ironman race, this is really paying off as I hit the pool at least 3-4 times a week and I look forward to every session. Lots of cool features with the Finis like organizing tempo beats with workouts. I just stick to up tempo music throughout.

Finis SwiMP3 V2 Underwater MP3 Player-New Design Just out for 2007 with Goggles

Excellent waterproof Mp3 player for LAP SWIMMERS. This player stays in place and works best when fully submerged. The sound quality is good but don't expect strong bass or very loud volume. Works best when used in conjunction with earplugs to block ambient pool noise. Can be used with just about any type of swim goggles...I use swedish goggs with the thin straps and it works great...stays put with strong pushes off the wall and all the head turning to breath! (some versions of this player come with goggles, mine did not). If you shop for this player, try to get the V2 version which has double the memory of the original and all of the controls are right on the side cheek bone player as opposed to a separate control pack that the original had which mounted on the back of your goggle straps.

After A LOT of research, I tried the speedo aquabeat first (USELESS FOR LAP SWIMMING...would be so-so for beach//surfing//boogie boarding///other water activities where your head remains primarily above water), and this player far out performs the Speedo Aquabeat in terms of comfort, staying in place, and providing decent sound quality. THIS IS CURRENTLY THE BEST UNDERWATER MP3 PLAYER OUT THERE FOR LAP SWIMMERS. All those that say it is to loud, were probably not using it correctly...it is designed to fire into the cheek bones and the vibrations conduct to your eardrums to produce the sound...those who put the player directly over the ear canal will find it to be quite loud. When worn properly, I found the volume to be sufficient but not even close to being to loud.

I have not experienced any of the headaches that a few others have claimed in their reviews...and I use this player to swim laps non-stop for an hour and a half each day, 5 days a week.

The software is easy to use with the standard drag and drop menus in windows. Others have also claimed there is no "shuffle" or random play feature, but there is if you read the instructions...you just have to hold down 2 buttons (the fwd and rev commands) at the same time on the player for 1 second and it's set to shuffle...very easy.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MP3 player to anyone who uses lap swimming for working out or competative swim training, it makes the time just fly by and you're no longer bored doing those long marathon swims...1 Caveat - it would not be well suited for use at the beach or on surfboards/boogie boards or other water activities where your head remains primarily out of the water as the sound conduction only really works well when it's submerged as previously stated. Good luck and enjoy if you buy this player...I found it to be well worth the money!

I wanted to write a brief review about the FINIS becuase I honestly doubted that it would even work. Surprisingly, it works pretty well. You do not get deep base or Bose type sound, but you can clearly hear the music and the volume is sufficient even when swimming at sprint speeds. If you are looking to break the silence in the pool...this is a great option. I have tried units with headphones and they rarely work. Once you get water in your ear, they are completely ineffective, but this one acutally works when your ears fill up with water and when you are waiting for the next interval. Maybe I will actually make it to the pool more often now...

The FINIS SwiMP3 Player uses bone conduction and it has excellent sound quality for an underwater product! I have custom ear plugs that I purchased from an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor and when I wear them while I swim with the SwiMP3 player all I hear is music.

The version 2 is much nicer than the first version because you can wear nearly any pair goggles with it, downloading music is easier and it has more memory (nearly 60 songs as well as 8 hours of use before recharging.

The version 1 limited the swimmer to goggles that would fit the player, held up to 30 songs, had a 4 hours of use before charging. Plus, if you have the version 1 player, you can send it in to FINIS for $100 US Dollars and they will send you version 2.
